Cool bike and a Yamaha Wedding Cake! Awesome!

Davis May Sends in this cool little hybrid and an AWESOME  Wedding cake!  That's a good wife you have there!  Hang on to her!

Hey,
My name is Davis May.  I have sent you some photos of my work in progress.  It is a 1973 Yamaha DT3/250.  This is my first and only motorcycle.  I bought it off Ebay three or four years ago now.  I learned to ride on this machine.  Its kinda of a mutt.  I was not sure if I wanted an enduro or a flat tracker so I kinda did both.
Things I have done-
RD350 Triple Tree
Honda Front Wheel and Hub (went from a 21" to 18")
Fiberglass tail section that was built for a Triumph
Webco High Compression head
Expansion chamber(sorry no photos of it)
Relocated ignition switch
Relocated Speedometer (no tach)
Hand Made wiring harness

I have to give my friend Bill credit for the paint.  He did all the hard stuff.  I just buffed.

The cake is my wedding cake.  My wife had to know what she was getting into.

I hope that you enjoy

Another Cool "4 cylinder" Triple

Doug Klassen writes in with a nice pic of a sweet 4 cylinder triple..

Hi Steve,

I check your 2-stroke and photo blog most days and always enjoy the stuff you find.

Attached is a photo I took at the Del Mar Concours in San Diego back in 2000. Look close, the mod is not your typical mod job on a the Kaw. The judges were so impressed that they asked the guy to start the bike to make sure it wasn’t faked. It ran and seemed to run well so they awarded him a special technical achievement trophy. Sorry but I don’t have any other info on the bike.

And be sure to check out Dougs blog at

I would like to pay tribute to these machines through this tireless Mobylette manufactured in Spain by the GAC factory in 1972 (with Pat MOTOBECANE). It is now part of my humble collection and belonged to the father of my wife. I also attached a picture of a very special preparation made by joining two other family member and modifying damping and braking system. Greetings from Zaragoza

2nd Update from the comments: Konig Racer. Really interesting engine cinfiguration.

Second Update: I've got the smartest readers on the web!

He was killed racing in 1973 and posthumously came second in that year's World 500cc Grand Prix. The film mixes interviews and underdog triumph on the track scenes, with Super 8 footage of family life on the circuit, and poignant wife-of-maverick reflections from his widow Janeen. Update from the comments:
Hi,
it is not a twin engine. It is a 4 cylinder engine. Originally a motorboat engine.
Cheers Uwe

I suspected that it might be but it was hard to be certain from the camera angle. thank you for clearing that up! Makes it all the more interesting!

A liquid cooled opposed four cylinder with a gear driven, toothed belt rotary valve intake intake setup. Interesting stuff.

Wow! Street Legal Maico MD250!! A Bike I Never Even Knew Existed.

Thanks to Andreas Weiss over on the Adventure Rider Site.
His comment over there went:

Here is my Maico MD 250 with rotary disc valve. The only street legal serial bike with Kröber ignition - alternator and accu charge control.
