There's been some activity on this post in the comments section and some folks are curious about the history of the engine. From the comments was a link to this stunner of a photo and a link to the teams website.

If you search Wynn Furst in google / videos you get the car on road America. Sounds like a 2 stroke but you can almost feeeeeel the Pooooowwwwwwwerrrrrr!

Back in the day I use to see a team that would always run a Kohler two stroke at Road America. I'll never forget how awesome that car sounded!
